News from Manitou Lodge in Forks Washington
May 06, 2008: Unannounced Mother's Day Special! We'll be serving complimentary Sunday morning tea for lodge guests accompanied by scones, British jam, and Devonshire Clotted Cream. Trust us, the clotted cream (with a consistency somewhere between cream and butter) alone is worth the extra gasoline.

Manitou Lodge

Originally built in 1970, our main building is a "classic" lodge structure whose most striking feature is a huge vaulted-ceiling "Great Room" with a massive stone fireplace. The numerous couches and chairs in this room provide the space to be with others, and, at the same time, to be private. Our book collection is among the best.

We're just about as far west as you can get in the lower 48 states on ten acres of coastal rainforest. Our hemlocks and spruce are still imposing, and there's a 1000 yr + Western Hemlock on the property. Rialto Beach, spectacularly rugged and log-strewn, is just 3 miles away. The Quileute Tribe resides 5 miles away at La Push, and Hiking Beaches # 1-3 south of La Push are well-known. Second Beach, for example, is probably the most photographed beach on the coast. These area beaches are among the last pristine settings in the US.
New! Take a look at some Aerial Photos of the forests and beaches in our immediate area.

Summer is a delight - sunshine and temperatures that rarely rise above 80 F. Winters are a different story. However, don't reject them as merely sodden and to be avoided. Powerful winter storms shape our coastline, and it's worth a dose of rain and wind in the face to witness one of these, especially when a couch, fire, and a warm bed are just a couple of minutes away.

With winter come the fish. Local rivers (Sol Duc, Bogachiel, Calawah, Hoh) offer world-class salmon and steelhead fishing. There' s more - from our door, it's about a 45 min drive to the Hoh Rainforest and Sol Duc Hot Springs, and 1 hr+ to Cape Flattery (most Northwestern point in the lower 48 states) and the Makah Reservation and Cultural Museum at Neah Bay. Check our "Area" page for links to hiking, sightseeing, fishing, and other regional information.
